Joining Neighbourhoods

Based on the Agent „Noise“ and the movie „Contact“ we extracted two notions that we related with noise; the notions of layering and extraction. These two notions served as the basis for an elaborate argument for a world in which there must exist a simultanteity of environments in space (horizontal) and in time (vertical). The discourse with bifurcation theory, chaos theory and literature from Zizek Slavoy, Junya Ishigami, Kurt Vonnegut and others eventually resulted in the invention of the bifurcating mechanics that builds our city into infite heights. The shortstory „The Garden of Forking Paths“, by Jorge Borges, presented itself as valuable analogy and as illustrative reference for our own world. „The medley of choices that compose the city, are the city. The vast and seemingly incomprehensible construct only demanded one thing of its citizens; to recover their poise, offering them in return the absence of compromise. Decision making has moved on from educated guessing, driven by the highest common denominator or the latest academic ramblings of apparent superiority and put them all to the test. Repeatedly being confronted with decision making informed its citizens and coerced them into some kind of individuality, continuously fragmenting society to a further degree by choice.“ The drawing illustrates on the one hand the simultaneity of different opinions and environments, in our decision/choice driven city, while also addressing the growth from its common foundations.
